How I got into Motorcycle Transport
I didn’t grow up riding motorcycles — I got into bikes at 19 when I couldn’t afford to keep my car. I’d never ridden before, but I booked a 3-day intensive course knowing I had to pass. I didn’t have the money for a second attempt, and the car had to go.
The plan was simple: cheap transport.
I bought a Yamaha TZR250R… and that was it. I had no idea at the time, but that decision completely changed my life.
After pouring everything I had into keeping it running, I eventually had to scrap it and spent a year without a bike — probably the worst year I can remember. I just wanted to be back on two wheels.
A close friend helped me out, selling me his old bike for £800 at £50 a month. It felt like a lifeline, and I rode every day.
Over the years, things stepped up — first a YZF750R, then a Fireblade — and what started as transport turned into something much bigger. Track days followed, then eventually racing.
My first race was at Donington Park. I remember being more worried about coming last than crashing. I qualified 2nd in class, had a terrible start, and still finished 5th. From that moment, I was completely hooked.
I went on to finish 5th overall in my first season, 2nd in my second, and later won the Ducati Desmodue Championship in 2014. Along the way there were highs, setbacks, and a major crash that broke my back and took a year of recovery.
Coming back from that changed how I rode — less all-or-nothing, more consistent — and ultimately led to winning the championship.
I stepped away from racing after Covid, following one last outing at Donington Park, but motorcycles have remained a huge part of my life ever since.
That background is what I bring into ML Motorcycle Transport. I understand what bikes mean to people — because I’ve lived it.
